Council 2852 Family of the Month Program

As Knights of Columbus, we have always been interested in the development of strong, vibrant families. In support of this philosophy and to create an even greater awareness of our many fine Columbian Families, the Supreme Council instituted the "Family of the Month" program in 1978. Since that time the "Family of the Month" program has grown to be one of the Order's most successful programs.

Our Council's Family Life Committee will select a family for this wonderful award every month that a worthy family is 'discovered'. Information about the family will then be sent to Supreme Council. To that end, the committee asks all Brother Knights and Sister Columbiettes to consider nominating a family for this award. It is an excellent way to recognize and support council families. Contact any of the members of the committee with your nominations. At the end of the year, our Family Life Committee will then choose a Family of the Year, which will also be sent to Supreme.

Besides being recognized locally at our own New Hyde Park Council, 100 Families from all Councils that nominated a Family of the Month will then be selected and will receive a Holy Family statuette from Supreme.

Guidelines for selecting a Family of the Month:

  • Does the Family enjoy one another?

  • Has the Family made significant contributions to the Church, community and/or council?

  • Does the Family share experiences?

  • Does the Family communicate openly and honestly?

  • Does the Family attend Mass and pray together?

  • Does the Family spend its time together interacting positively & actively instead of passively in front of the television set?

  • How involved is the Family in the many aspects of its Council?
