Columbiette President Message for March 2010

Dear Sister Columbiettes,

Lent is a time of growth, caring, forgiveness, prayer and faith. It is a time to remember that Jesus wants us to show love and care for all people. We should remember to ask for forgiveness from our compassionate and loving God. We should striye to be a people of prayer and faith who live what Christ has taught us. Let us pauseto thinkofthosetimes when wedidn'tlisten to Jesus' call to love. Jesus taught us to be generous, but sometimes we are selfish with our time and love. Jesus taught us to put God first in our lives, but sometimes we think only of ourselves. Loving creator, help us plan what we can do this Lent to get closer to your Son, Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

On Wednesday, February 10th our meeting was canceled due to the blizzard. However, ifyou still wish to donate unwrapped new baby items or monetary donations for Birthright, you can bring them to the March meeting. I thank the ladies who did already donate in time for the Birthright Shower on February 15 that the Chapter. Itwas greatly appreciated by the representative and if we have more items they will send someone to pick them up.

Iam sorry to say thatwe had to cancel ourfundraiserValentine Dance on February 14thfor lack of support. The committee who worked on it put alot of work into it and was disappointed in the lack of interest. I thank them for their effort. The Valentine Dance was advertised in the January and February Clarion and announced at the January meeting, which was sufficient time to make plans to attend. Without our fundraisers we will not be able to donate to the charities in our budget this year. There are still members who have not paid their dues for 2010. New members who joined in October 2009 paid dues at that time forthe three remaining months of2009 and have to pay for201 O. Names of those who have not paid their dues forthis year will be read at the March meeting and the Financial Secretary will send out letters advising them of suspension if not paid by March 315t Pass the message on to members who may not have paid their dues.

I am putting together a nominating committee to work on the slate of officers for the 2010-2011 Columbian Year. We need to fill some of the positions on the board. May your loyalty to the ideals of the Columbiettes help you to consider accepting an officer position. The names of the officers will be announced at the April 14th meeting and the official vote will be held at the May 12th meeting.

Remember in your prayers all our Sister Columbiettes and Brother Knights who are sick.
